Politicians’ statements of assets

In the last ten years, politicians’ statements of assets contain thousands data which are in an inadequate format, are vague and imprecise, although the Agency for Prevention of Corruption (ASK) has introduced new forms this year, the Centre for Democratic Transition (CDT) said.

CDT president, Milica Kovacevic, said that it was the reason why the NGO has made a website where statements of assets of the government members are presented.

“This site may be an example for ASK how to enable public control and compare a politician’s income with his/her assets”, said Kovacevic.

Kovacevic said that CDT believes it is extremely important that all statements of assets declared in the last ten years to be preserved and presented to the public in order to obtain better insight and more precise picture of whether and how much the assets of officials in Montenegro were increased during their terms of office.

As she said, it can be seen whether an official performs his/her duties responsibly by checking whether the official declared his/her assets within the legal time limit and in the prescribed form to report.
